What's Your Favorite Scary Movie? Artwork by Dan Franklin @ Sanctum

>>RSVP This event is all-ages :)

DAN.jpg

Dan Franklin is an Alabama based artist best known for her hyper realistic charcoal illustrations on recycled paper, matchbooks and wood. Working at such a small scale the artist is able to transform memorable life size scenes and objects from cinema into miniature talismans of nostalgia. It is through these pieces and the shared memories movies allow us that she hopes to make a connection with her audience.

En Blanc et Noir by Paul Wilm @ Manitou Supply

>>RSVP This event is all-ages :)

Paul Cordes Wilm is a Southern painter, born and raised in Alabama. He currently lives in Birmingham, Alabama.
Equally influenced by Andy Warhol and Mose Tolliver (an Alabama folk artist), the bright colors (a good-natured nod to the artist’s red/green colorblindness), satirical juxtapositions and sharp sense of humor all make Paul’s “Folk-Pop” artwork nearly iconic in the Magic City.

"When I’m not focused on social problems for my graduate studies at UAB, I like to throw paint around without thinking too hard. Let's not ruin it. Watercolor adds an element of 'why did that color run there?' that keeps things interesting.

"In regard to subject matter, animals and dead people rarely complain that their noses look crooked or that Aladdin Sane wasn't their top choice of Bowie looks. I spend a fair amount of time trying to figure out how to color a nebula inside the lines (or tentacles) and which snake looks the most like a pop idol." - Mercedes Tarasovich

Neighbor : Works by Emily Rice @ Manitou Supply

>>RSVP This event is all-ages :)

Emily Rice’s artwork focuses on the personal stories of intimate and marginalized communities. It can be viewed as whimsical and reflective, offering unique perspectives through the lenses of individuals within the south. Constantly considering the way southern communities work and grow together, Emily’s art resides in and among constructs of architectural design. The subject matter of each piece determines the materials and the narratives they provide. Often exploring ideas of relationships, anxiety, sexuality, gender identity, and race, her work examines what it is like to be a modern day southern bell.

DJ set by Kamál Akeem starts at 6 PM

Film photography, still and moving*, brought to you in the full spectrum magic of Technicolor**, developed by the SCIENCE of Silver Halide, and catalyzed by kiosks and bustle and blood and asphalt and vine covered alley escape chutes and brutalist infrastructure and suits and drug abuse. Curated by Fourteen76.

Works featured by:

**Magical technological techniques of Technicolor not technically guaranteed upon viewing Black and White photography. Technicians will be on hand.

*Skaters were harmed in the making of the moving pictures in question. The body is a momentary coil, shed at times in order to liberate the spirit. Board skoot acknowledges/addresses this shining truth.
